5 Posts to Improve Engagement
by Crunch Ranjani
Social media is a powerful tool for entrepreneurs. Over 3.6 billion people worldwide use social media* and this number is projected to grow in the coming years. Whether you’re a healer, activist, or visionary, social media allows you to tap into a wide audience to make an impact, inspire others, and change lives.
However, having a social media presence is not just about posting a random picture every day and hoping for the best. Social media can be tricky to navigate, and social media posting guidelines keep changing.
One thing is certain: whether it’s Instagram, Facebook, or any other social media platform, the algorithms reward engagement. Likes, comments, shares, and saves are the key to reaching a wider audience and growing your business.
Wondering how to get more engagement on your social media posts or need some social media posting ideas to boost interaction with your account? In this blog post, we’re diving into the five types of most engaging social media posts our clients are creating, plus some bonus tips on how to write them!
Long-Form Personal Story
This is one of the most important types of content you can share with your audience. In this digital age, we’re all searching for authentic, meaningful connections, but it can be difficult to find that on social media. On platforms where everything is carefully curated and edited to perfection “for the ‘gram”, the long-form personal story stands out for keeping it real.
When you share a long-form personal story, you are sharing a part of yourself, your life, and who you are as a human. You are giving your audience a snapshot of what you believe, what you stand for, and the experiences that have made you the person you are. This helps people feel like they know you, and people trust people they know, and people want to work with people they know.
How to Structure a Long Form Personal Story:
Begin with a short catchphrase - Grab their attention with a catchy phrase that sums up your personal story.
Tell a personal story that is relevant to your work - Share details about a personal experience related to the work that you do. Be mindful of how personal or intimate your anecdote is, and aim to inspire and uplift!
Use a specific call to action - Direct readers to take a specific action that’s related to your story after reading your post, whether that’s leaving a comment or downloading your freebie!
Include a photo of yourself - This can either be a professional photograph or a selfie, but it’s important that people have a face to tie to the story so that they can start building that association between you, your stories, and your brand.
2. Facebook / Instagram Lives or Reels
Fun Fact: Going live on Facebook and Instagram instantly sends a notification to your followers telling them that you are Live. This does not often happen for most other posts, so we recommend taking advantage of this little perk!
Facebook and Instagram Lives are an easy way to boost your engagement because the social media platform is helping you grab your audience’s attention and doing some of the promotion for you. Facebook and Instagram Lives are an excellent way to convey educational information in a video format to reach your audience who may not be as interested or engaged by text content. Live videos can also be repurposed on other platforms - make it once, post it multiple times!
Reels are another powerful engagement tool you should be adding to your content repertoire. Instagram recently announced that they want to be in direct competition with TikTok, and as a result, they are extensively promoting Reels. What this means is that if you make a Reel, you are likely to get much higher views and reach a much larger audience than with any other type of post on Instagram. They’re also perfect for showcasing your fun side and being a little silly sometimes! If creating video content is your jam, there’s no reason NOT to be using Reels, which are basically a free social media marketing tool to expand your reach.
3. Educational Content
Another type of content that performs well in terms of engagement is educational posts. This is an excellent type of content to post in the few weeks leading up to a launch! We recommend keeping it related to the product or service that you’re promoting. Even if you’re not in the promotional stage in your business, definitely include this type of post when planning social media content to keep delivering value to your audience.
Tips For Writing Educational Content:
Pick a specific topic related to an upcoming offer you want to promote
Educate your audience by sharing your expertise on the topic
Break up the content to make it easier to read, or share a short excerpt from a longer piece of content like a blog post
Include a compelling call to action
4. User-Generated Content
Graphic, written, or video content created by someone else is a terrific choice to boost engagement on social media. Sharing content created by other people helps to reinforce the narrative of your brand. When you post an article or an image from an influential creator with a substantially larger following and a similar message, you reinforce your expertise and strengthen your brand.
How to Create User-Generated Content:
Ask for permission from the original creator before sharing whenever possible.
Don’t just use the share button to reshare content. Instead, download the image and copy the related caption or text. Then, create a new post on your page or personal profile by uploading the image and pasting the caption.
Don’t forget to tag the original creator in your post!
5. Quote Graphics AKA Memes
This kind of content often gets a lot of engagement and reach because it resonates with many people and is easy to share. This makes it an effective way to increase brand awareness and expand your reach. If you are using a quote from a famous author or influencer, we recommend creating a graphic that has your branding (fonts, colors, and images) and crediting the original creator. Ensure that the quote or meme is relevant to your content!
When writing the caption for this type of social media content, you can keep it simple by just using the quote and the author. Alternatively, you can also add in a short description or personal reflection. Remember to add in a call to action!
Social media is a fantastic platform to connect with your audience and nurture a community of engaged followers. With these five social media posts, you’ll be sure to spark new conversations in your community and boost your social media performance!
